At the 2017 Laurence Olivier Awards, the London production received a record-breaking eleven nominations and again won a record-breaking nine awards, including Best New Play, Best Actor, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Actress in a Supporting Role and Best Director. The play will open at Broadway on April 22, 2018, at the Lyric Theatre in New York complete with most of the London cast. Filmed from the balcony, with no zooms or pans-mostly just a full stage shot. But for a show with so many special effects, a full stage shot isn’t bad. Also, the filmer held the camera at an odd angle, so the picture is a little crooked. B

Each deeply invested in their own version of family history, the siblings clash over everything from Michael’s controversial scholarly work to the mounting pressures of caring for an ailing parent. As destructive secrets and long-held resentments bubble to the surface, the three negotiate—with biting humor and razor-sharp insight—how much of the past they’re willing to sacrifice for a chance at a new beginning. If I Forget tells a powerful tale of a family and a culture at odds with itself". Professionally filmed with multiple cameras for BroadwayHD before an audience. A

LAURIE BEECHMAN AT THE BALLROOM 1 DVD 11/30/91 New York. Filmed at the closing performance of a three week engagement at The Ballroom in New York City. NY Times Review: "Laurie Beechman, a cabaret performer who is familiar to Broadway audiences from shows like "Cats" and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," has always tried to keep one foot in contemporary pop while building a career in the musical theater. In her new cabaret act, the balance between the two worlds has shifted precariously toward pop. A sobbing heart-on-sleeve belter with a buzzing vibrato, Ms. Beechman likes to shoot the moon at every possible opportunity with histrionic gestures reminiscent of Barbra Streisand's. This approach may suit grandiose ballads like "Memory" (from "Cats") and "The Music That Makes Me Dance" (from "Funny Girl"), but it can be lethal when applied to an attenuated rendition of the Young Rascals' 1967 hit "How Can I Be Sure?" The singer's new act has far too many such poorly conceived musical choices. Bruce W. Coyle, Ms. Beechman's pianist and musical director, has saddled her with fussy, diffuse arrangements for a five-piece band in which a saxophone frequently clashes with her voice. Most of the songs are done too slowly, with too many emotional stops pulled out too soon. The worst choice was to give Ms. Beechman two inept backup singers. At the opening-night show on Tuesday, she was joined by Frank Mastrone and Dan Guzman, fellow Broadway performers, whose thin and off-pitch harmonies destroyed everything they touched". Filmed using one camera on a tripod. A-.

Other highlights include Sam Harris singing "Bridge Over Troubled Water", and "Revival", and Colm Wilkinson singing "Bring Him Home". The evening also included "A New World" by Jason Robert Brown, something from a developing musical about Charles Chaplin, "Rhythm of Life" from "Sweet Charity", a hilarious take on "Book Report" from You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, with new "Les Miz" lyrics, and lots more. Filmed with multiple camcorders. A-.
LIPS TOGETHER, TEETH APART 1 DVD 8/28/91 Off-Broadway. Nathan Lane, Anthony Heald, Roxanne Hart, Deborah Rush. RARE! Terence McNally's play in its premier production at the Manhattan Theatre Club. "Two married couples spend the Fourth of July weekend at a summer house on Fire Island. The brother of Sally Truman has recently died of AIDS and has willed his Fire Island house to her. Her husband, Sam, opens the play testing the chlorine level of the water in the pool. It becomes clear that everyone is afraid of somehow getting AIDS from swimming in the same pool that Sally’s brother used to swim in. As she believes, "One drop of water in your mouth or an open sore and we’ll be infected with my brother and his black lover and God knows who else was in here". Sam’s sister, Chloe and her husband, John, share the apprehension, though John Has cancer of the esophagus and is not particularly worried about AIDS. In fact he intentionally sticks his head in the pool and gets a mouthful of water which he spits at the others. The play reveals both marriages in trouble and many examples of superficial values and prejudices". Shot from right center aisle, near the back of the small house, full stage shot, spotlight wash, low volume. B-.

SEE NO EVIL 1 DVD The Moors Murders 2006 Crime/Drama/Thriller/Made-for-TV. Joanne Froggatt, Maxine Peake, Sean Harris, Matthew McNulty, George Costigan. See No Evil: The Moors Murders is a two-part British television serial. The serial tells the story of the Moors murders, which were committed during the 1960s by Myra Hindley and Ian Brady, from the view of Hindley's sister, Maureen Smith, and her husband David. The serial is the first known dramatization of the notorious killing spree, and it was produced to mark the 40th anniversary of Hindley and Brady's trial. It was made with the full backing of the victims' families and was based on two years of research. Writer Neil McKay based the story on the gathered research; which included interviews with detectives, relatives of the murdered children, and Hindley's brother-in-law David Smith. The only murder which featured was that of 17-year-old Edward Evans at Hindley and Brady's house in Hattersley. However, the investigation into the disappearance of the four other victims is mentioned on several occasions, particularly that of twelve-year-old John Kilbride. The production won the BAFTA for Best Drama Serial at the 2007 ceremony. A

54 Sings: Henry, Sweet Henry 1 DVD 6/14/17 New York. Narrated by Neva Small (Original 1967 cast member). Ron Spivak (Henry Orient), Beada Briglia (Valerie Boyd), Evie Dolan (Pia), Kristen Gehling (Stella), Christine Knitel (Mrs. Cooney), Eric Knitel (Mr. Boyd), Megan Moynahan (Marian Gilbert), Alexa Shae Niziak (Kafritz), Corinna Sowers-Adler (Mrs. Boyd). Follow Val and Gil, two smitten teens, as they chase famed composer Henry Orient up and down Manhattan and unwittingly expose his numerous affairs in this concert presentation of the charming and rarely-seen musical Henry, Sweet Henry. Henry, Sweet Henry was produced on Broadway in 1967, featuring a book by Nunnally Johnson and music and lyrics by five-time Tony Award nominee Bob Merrill. The show, based on the novel and film The World of Henry Orient, has since become a cult favorite despite a short 80 performance run on Broadway. Presented at Feinstein’s/54 Below. Filmed from stage left, the filmer just sat his camcorder on his table, so there are no zooms or pans. Heads appear in the bottom half of the screen. B+
After Miss Julie 1 DVD 11/4/95 BBC-TV. Geraldine Somerville (Miss Julie), Kathy Burke (Christine), Phil Daniels (John). “After Miss Julie is an adaptation of the 1888 play Miss Julie by August Strindberg. The narrative takes place on the night of July 26, 1945, after the British Labor Party's landslide defeat of the Conservatives (led by Winston Churchill). The atmosphere is lively, and the action takes place on a property owned by Miss Julie's rich father. Christine (Kathy Burke) and John (Phil Daniels) work for Miss Julie's father and are planning on getting married. Miss Julie (played by Geraldine Somerville) complicates this when she, slightly drunk from celebrating, begins to flirt with John. Christine is aware of this, but is so tired from working that she goes to bed. Once Christine is gone, John and Miss Julie begin talking about the past, flirting with each other all the while. John admits that he has always "loved" her, and Miss Julie responds to that sexually. They sleep together, and in the early morning Christine walks in on them in John's room. She leaves, shocked by it. The next morning Miss Julie is panicking about sleeping with one of her father's employee's. She talks with John and he says that he had seduced her and did not really love her. Miss Julie, ashamed that he took her virginity, plans to leave. Christine confronts John and Miss Julie begins to seem suicidal. The open ending leaves their fates up to the audience, with Christine planning to go to church, Miss Julie leaving for the barn with a razor and John receiving orders from Miss Julie's father”. Presented as part of the BBC series Performance. A.
All About Me 1 DVD 3/17/10 Broadway. Dame Edna, Michael Feinstein. Directed by Jerry Zaks. “Dame Edna collaborates with cabaret pianist and singer, Michael Feinstein for this two-person, limited run revue, based on the concept that the pair were rivals who were forced to work together for the show's sake. Originally announced as two separate productions (with similar titles), Everage (Barry Humphries) and Feinstein engaged in a battle of the barbs in the press prior to the revelation that the two would unite their talents for one show. The production also features back-up dancers Gregory Butler (Chicago) and Jon-Paul Mateo (The Wedding Singer), as well as Jodi Capeless in her Broadway debut as the weary stage manager who must mitigate the egos of Everage and Feinstein.” Nicely filmed from the balcony. All Night Strut 1 DVD 10/11/88 PBS-TV. A fabulous foursome sings and dances its way through the favorites of the era, including "In the Mood," "Tuxedo Junction," "As Time Goes By," "Fascinating Rhythm," and many others. Delightful classics, jitterbugs and jives, and a highly-charged onstage band will make audiences feel like they're taking part in a late night jazz session or spending an elegant evening at the Savoy”. The show opened Off-Broadway in 1979 where it only played for 6 performances, but has gone on to be a successful show for repertory and amateur groups ever since. Recorded for TV at the Pennsylvania Centre Stage before an audience. 90 minutes. A

Chalk Garden 1 DVD Staged Reading 6/19/17 New York. Angela Lansbury, Tedra Millan, Patricia Connolly, Michele Tauber, Holly Villaire, Francesca Faridany, Simon Jones, David Lansbury, Charlotte Parry. Angela Lansbury lead this one-night-only staged reading to benefit The Acting Company at Hunter College’s Kay Playhouse. The Chalk Garden premiered on Broadway in 1955. “After many younger years as a London society hostess, Mrs. Saint Maugham (Lansbury) fills her days tending her garden at her country estate. When she seeks a governess for her granddaughter, Laurel (whose habit of setting small fires is getting a bit out of hand) the child connects instantly with Miss Madrigal, an enigmatic woman who has come without any references. Who, exactly, is this Madrigal? With a talent for gardening and avoiding questions, she fascinates the equally inscrutable Laurel, who can never resist a mystery...especially if it might involve murder”. In June of 2016, Lansbury announced her intention to bring the show to Broadway with producer Scott Rudin. The project had long been in development, as Lansbury had also said in a 2013 radio interview that she was aiming to headline a production later that fall. Nicely filmed from the balcony with no issues. The actors are in street clothes, holding their scripts, with no set and minimal staging. A

Dining Room 1 DVD 1984 PBS-TV. Frances Sternhagen, John Shea, William H. Macy, Pippa Pearthree, Jeanne Ruskin, Remak Ramsay. Written by A.R. Gurney Jr. First produced in New York City at the Studio Theatre of Playwrights Horizons, opening January 31, 1981. “The play is a comedy of manners, set in a single dining room where 18 scenes from different households overlap and intertwine. Presumably, each story is focused around a different family during different time periods who has in their possession the same dining room furniture set, manufactured in 1898. The stories are about WASP families. Some scenes are about the furniture itself and the emotional attachment to it, while other scenes simply flesh out the culture of the WASPS. Overall, it tells the story of the dying (and relatively short-lived) culture of upper-middle class Americans, and the transition into a much more efficient society with less emphasis on tradition and more emphasis on progress. Some characters are made fun of, as is the culture itself, but there is also a genuine longing for the sense of stability, comfort and togetherness that the culture provides”. This video presentation reunites most of the original Playwrights Horizon’s cast. A.

Follies 1 DVD 11/16/17 London. Imelda Staunton (Sally), Janie Dee (Phyllis), Philip Quast (Ben), Peter Forbes (Buddy), Tracie Bennett (Carlotta Campion), Di Botcher (Hattie Walker), Dawn Hope (Stella Deems), Geraldine Fitzgerald (Solange Lafitte), Josephine Barstow (Heidi Schiller), Norma Attallah (Emily Whitman), Billy Boyle (Theodore Whitman), Gary Raymond (Dimitri Weismann), Bruce Graham (Roscoe), Alex Young (Young Sally), Zizi Strallen (Young Phyllis), Adam Rhys-Charles (Young Ben), Fred Haig (Young Buddy). London’s National Theatre production, broadcast live to cinemas around the world. The National Theatre revival is the first fully staged major London production of Follies to present the original Broadway version of the show. Sondheim and Goldman revised large parts of the show’s script and score for its 1987 London premiere, toning down the underlying bleakness of the Broadway original, and offering a more hopeful finale for its central characters. Director Dominic Cooke revisited early drafts of Goldman’s script, restoring original dialogue and moments that have not been seen in the production since its 1971 Broadway run. This is an incredible production, easily the best I have ever seen. A

Jamaica 1 DVD 7/29/17 New York. Taylor-Rey Rivera, Barbyly Noël, Corean Robinson, Dexter Thomas-Payne, Daniel Fergus Tamulonis, Derrick Montalvado and Jason Johnson. Jamaica is a musical with a book by Yip Harburg and Fred Saidy, lyrics by Harburg, and music by Harold Arlen. It is set on a small island off the coast of Jamaica, and tells about a simple island community fighting to avoid being overrun by American commercialism. Arlen's music parodies the popular form of Calypso, which was in vogue in the 1950s, largely because of the popularity of Harry Belafonte, for whom the musical was originally written. Belafonte withdrew from the production due to illness, and the musical was then tailored around the talents of Lena Horne. Presented by the Harlem Repertory Theatre at the Tato Laviera Theatre. Filmed at the opening night preview from a stationary camera stage left. Some of the action stage right is missed. B+

Tommy Tune, Colin Donnell, Danny Gardner, Jeff Hiller, Erin Mackey, Patti Murin, Richard Poe, Douglas Sills, Jennifer Laura Thompson, Kirsten Wyatt. “Lady, Be Good! will send you back in time to the Roaring Twenties, when speakeasies and the Charleston were all the rage, and George and Ira Gershwin’s first hit collaboration ushered in the Golden Age of American musical comedy. The madcap 1924 musical tells the story of a penniless brother (Danny Gardner) and sister (Patti Murin) who crash a garden party in hopes of some quick nourishment. They resolve to marry for money, but love gets in the way, as it usually does. Before true love wins out, they encounter Mexican gangsters, crooked lawyers, wealthy socialites, and a song-and-dance man possessed by a “Fascinating Rhythm” (Tommy Tune). Most of Lady, Be Good!’s original orchestrations disappeared long ago. Thanks to the Joseph S. and Diane H. Steinberg Broadway Musical Restoration Fund, Encores! reproduced the authentic score under the supervision of Encores! Founding Music Director Rob Fisher”. Well filmed from the balcony. A

Town Bully 1 DVD 1988 (Drama/Made-For-TV). Bruce Boxleitner, Pat Hingle, Jerry Hardin, Isabella Hoffman, David Graf. “When one man (Graf) terrorizes a town and its citizens, they join together to take 'care' of him. A special prosecutor (Bruce Boxleitner) is brought in to find the guilty person”. A-
Toyer 1 DVD 1985 Washington, DC. Kathleen Turner, Brad Davis. “This psychological thriller is a mind game play. Toyer is someone who toys; he is a mass paralyzer who toys with his victims. He does not murder or rape, he seduces and then immobilizes.” Following productions in Los Angles and the Actors Studio, it was produced at the Eisenhower Theatre and then finally here at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Due to stage lighting the first 10 minutes are dark. Recorded using one camera on a tripod. Some generational loss. B-.
Water Engine 1 DVD 8/24/92 (Drama/Made-For-TV). Patti LuPone, William H. Macy, Charles Durning, John Mahoney, Joe Mantegna, Treat Williams, Joanna Miles. Written by David Mamet. Based on the 1978 Broadway play (which also featured Patti LuPone.) “In the 1930s, Charles Lang invents an engine that runs using water for fuel. But when he tries to get it patented, he is first offered a ridiculously low amount. When he refuses, suddenly several people are pressuring him to sell. The big oil companies don't want the competition. Now he has to try and keep them from getting his idea, and somehow get it published. Key themes that provide an important backdrop for the film are the Great Depression, a sense of political and social unrest with the related issue of the powerful vs. the weak, and a sense that the country is entering an age of science that will bring great wonders to all. Lang (Macy), a drill press operator in a huge, ominous factory, cares for his blind sister (LuPone) and the two of them dream of a way to a better life with his water engine. The film is about hopes and dreams against the reality of the Depression and powerful forces.” Never available commercially. Commercials have been edited out. A-

THE BEACH BOYS 2 DVD - 1974: ON THE ROAD WITH THE BEACH BOYS - menu with select option - interviews, scene select, - RARE AND AMAZING FOOTAGE - 150 minutes - In 1974, Billy Hinsche was a college student taking a course in film/filming. He had access to one of the first portable movie film cameras made. He took this camera on tour with the Beach Boys in the summer of 1974. This DVD is basically home movies of the Beach Boys and gives a very personal glimpse into the life of the Beach Boys while on the road. Commentary provided by people who were there with the Beach Boys in 1974, Billy Hinsche (tour musician - keyboards, guitar), Ed Carter (tour musician - bass), Rick Nelson (tour manager), Jim Guercio (manager/producer), Ricky Fataar (tour musician - drums), Carli Munoz (tour musician - keyboards) and Bobby Figueroa (tour musician - drums).
THE BEACH BOYS 2 DVD A LONG PROMISED ROAD - MENU WITH SONG SELECT - - 36 TV APPEARANCES AND VIDEOS -- This two disc set features just about all of the Beach Boys TV appearances on American TV. While almost all of these have been around on other dvd boots, they appear here in the best video quality that I've seen. So if you want the best of the best, this 2 disc set might be the way to go.
THE BEACH BOYS 1 DVD - THE GIRLS ON THE BEACH 1965 - 92 minutes, excellent picture , This movie is thin on plot with unknown actors, trying to cash in on the popular beach movies made by Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello. This movie has two major draws - Lesley Gore and The Beach Boys. - the Beach Boys make several on screen appearances lip syncing to Little Honda, Girls On The Beach and The Lonely Sea.
BEACH BOYS 1 DVD AL JARDINE - BEACH BOYS FAMILY & FRIENDS - MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT STONE MOUNTAIN GEORGIA 5/30/99 - 67 minutes, pro fan shot, daytime , outdoor show - excellent picture , May 1999 found the Beach Boys Family and Friends touring group performing a longer set, including most of the songs they had been performing during previous concerts, plus more "oldies". BEACH BOYS 2 DVD - CARL WILSON - HERE AND NOW 2011 -180 minutes, crystal , A highly personal documentary film about the professional and private life of Carl Wilson, the man who had “the voice of an angel,” as well as being the lead guitarist and founding member of The Beach Boys. - •Contains three hours of viewing on two discs.- •Family members interviewed are Brian Wilson, Jonah Wilson, Justyn Wilson, Annie Wilson Karges, Marilyn Wilson Rutherford, Carole Wilson Bloom and more.- •50 interviews highlight Gerry Beckley (America), Phil “Fang” Volk (Paul Revere & The Raiders), Nick Fortuna (The Buckinghams), Walt Parazaider (Chicago) and many others.- •Includes never-before-seen family photos, rare home movies and vintage concert footage.- •Features musical segments by Carl Wilson and the complete versions of Michael Angeloff's “Here and Now Is Forever” and “Life's So Strange” that were Carl's last background vocal performances in the recording studio.- • Filmed on location from 2007-2011 by distinguished Beach Boys' historian and filmmaker Billy Hinsche, who was also Carl Wilson's brother-in-law.
BEACH BOYS 1 DVD DENNIS WILSON - Two Lane Blacktop (1971) - This film follows Dennis Wilson (the mechanic) and James Taylor (the driver) as they race for pink slips. Day by day depression and drama with nothing to eat but hard boiled eggs! James was one hell of an actor, he had the long hair, the brooding demeanor, and the mummbling James Deanesque speech pattern. It's ten times a greater movie than say,... EASY RIDER, which although has the same kind of travelogue storyline, the characters are more likeable and there is no drug use involved! Also stars Warren Oats, Laurie Bird and Harry Dean Stanton
BEACH BOYS 1 DVD - DENNIS WILSON FOREVER 2007 menu with scene seclections 85 minutes, crystal, - Produced and directed by Dennis' brother-in-law Billy Hinsche, who shared many years on stage with Dennis throughout the most memorable times of his professional career. Filled with fascinating, funny, outrageous anecdotes about Dennis the surfer, drummer, race car driver, songwriter and friend, the film is an insightful, honest, loving look at the incredible life of the legendary Beach Boys drummer as seen through the eyes of those who knew him best; containing over thirty different interviews with family members, close friends, fellow musicians, co-workers, admirers, and members of the Beach Boys past and present. You will be moved to laughter and tears while hearing about some of his many adventures and how he inspired and touched the lives of those with whom he came into contact over the years. This full-length feature film includes vintage black & white photos and footage of Dennis and the Beach Boys of 1974.
BEACH BOYS 1 DVD -DENNIS WILSON - THE REAL BEACH BOY 2010 - 60 minutes crystal picture, - BBC documentary that tells the story of Dennis's life and music, with unseen archive footage and original interviews with Beach Boys Al Jardine and David Marks, his sons Michael and Carl and many friends and fellow musicians. These include Taylor Hawkins, drummer with the Foo Fighters who provided a vocal for the lost track on Pacific Ocean Blue, Holy Man, for which Dennis never laid down a vocal when he recorded the song in 1977.
BEACH BOYS 1 DVD - BRIAN WILSON - PRIVATE PARTY 1991 39 minutes, - VERY COOL AND AS DESCRIBED BELOW --- EXCELLENT PICTURE - A HOMEMADE VIDEO OF WHAT APPEARS TO BE A PRIVATE PARTY - HELD IN SOMEONE'S BACKYARD --brians vocal seems a bit unsteady at times. This was recorded at a time when Brian was just getting started performing concerts again and still under the care of Dr Landy. Brian's singing voice has gotten better over the years. One thing I liked about this show, Brian actually plays the piano. In fact, it's the most dominate instrument. In his more recent concerts, Brian sits behind a keyboard but it's more of a prop than anything else. This video shows that Brian could still hold his own on piano in a concert setting.
BEACH BOYS 1 DVD - BRIAN WILSON & DEANA CARTER - FRONT ROW CENTER (1998) -45 minutes, excellent picture In 1998, Brian Wilson appeared on TNN's Front Row Center along with Deana Carter. Recorded at the Norris Cultural Arts Center in St. Charles IL, they performed before a live studio audience. Brian performs mainly Beach Boy songs with the exception of one from his newly released Imagination album --MIGHT ONLY PLAY IN COMPUTER MEDIA PLAYER
BEACH BOYS / BRIAN WILSON & JEFF BECK 2 DVD - GREEK THEATER 2013 -pro fan shot, excellent picture -- - This is technically a Beach Boys Concert. It features Brian Wilson, The Brian Wilson Band, Al Jardine, David Marks and special guest Blondie Chapman. The only ones missing (and probably the reason they couldn't call it the Beach Boys) is Mike Love and Bruce Johnston. Only Beach Boy songs are performed, no Wilson solo material. - Of course Jeff Beck and his band perform and both bands perform together as well
RINGO STARR 1 DVD - BLINDMAN 1971 - Ringo stars in this B rate spaghetti Western - After fifty mail order brides intended for miner husbands are sold off to bandits, the blind but deadly gunfighter hired to escort them heads into Mexico in pursuit. ---EXCELLENT PICTURE -- PLEASE NOTE MIGHT ONLY PLAY IN COMPUTER MEDIA PLAYER
