Broadway Bares 26: "On Demand" 6/19/16 New York. Chiseled morning show hosts, rock-hard reality show contestants and pumped up politicos took over the airwaves at this year’s edition of Broadway Bares, an evening of elaborately staged burlesque production numbers that gave a new meaning to "Bares TV." Produced by and benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Broadway Bares: On Demand raised an impressive $1,482,724 in two performances on Sunday, June 19, 2016. The event featured 198 of New York’s sexiest and most talented dancers, entertaining standing-room-only audiences at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom. The evening was dedicated to the victims, families and friends of last week’s Orlando night club tragedy. This year’s guest performers Billy Porter, Lesli Margherita, Christopher Sieber, Frankie J. Grande, Daniel Dae Kim, Michael Longoria and NY1 News’ Frank DiLella and Roma Torre. The show also included special "on demand" video appearances by Gloria Estefan, Andrew Rannells, Wendy Williams, RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Bob the Drag Queen, Cassandra Peterson as her horror hostess alter ego Elvira and HGTV’s Property Brothers, Drew Scott and Jonathan Scott. The evening followed a fledgling TV network’s efforts to turn itself into an audience favorite by asking its stars to drop their drawers and opt for "all nude, all the time." Multi-camera, pro-shot. Broadway Bares 25: "Top Bottoms Of Burlesque" 6/21/15 New York. BC/EFA celebrates it’s 25th edition of Broadway Bares with this unique spin on the classic Broadway musical "42nd Street", the story of a bright-eyed ingénue looking to make it big on the Great White Way. The evening, which features special guest performances by Laverne Cox, Bianca Del Rio, Harvey Fierstein, Lesli Margherita and Christopher Sieber, raised a record-shattering $1,598,501 to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The show-within-a-show Broadway Bares began with a curtain-raising reveal of 100 bouncing booties, all auditioning for a part in the next Broadway hit, "Top Bottoms of Burlesque." As the dance captain Callan Bergmann cut want-to-be bottoms, Fierstein, dressed in drag, introduced a "parade of asses," a pageant of bottoms colorfully representing each season in elegant showgirl costumes designed by two-time Tony winner Gregg Barnes. The opening number, was written by Andrew Lippa and Hunter Bell. The starry-eyed "Petey Sawyer" from Allentown arrived too late for the audition and is relegated for the remainder of the show to find his own way on to a Broadway stage. Leading lady Bianca Del Rio is summoned to the stage by Sieber who advances the show’s storyline as Broadway producer "JM." Del Rio showed true stage diva-ness in "Shadow Play," revealing her inner cougar by leading a dozen muscular chorus boys through an erotic shadow dance. But her bows take a devastating turn when she slips on a wet stage and "breaks her ass." Del Rio’s injury triggers a search for her replacement as the next "top bottom of Broadway," a search led by Margherita as an over-the-top casting assistant. An energetic tap number "He’s in the Money," a modern nod to 42nd Street’s iconic "We’re in the Money" ends the show. Closing the evening, Christopher Sieber lead the show’s famous "rotation," where the entire cast dances freestyle to encourage individual appreciation tips from the audience. This year’s rotation added $24,912 to the record-breaking total. Filmed using multiple cameras. A

BROADWAY BARES 3 1 DVD 1993 ~ New York The First Broadway Bares was presented in 1992 by Jerry Mitchell and the company of The Will Rogers Follies at Splash bar. Eight dancers "in rotation" on the bar raised over $8,000. By this, the third year, the show raised $38,000. The show has continued to grow in popularity, and in 2008, the show raised $875,000. This early version of the show featured dancers from some of the Broadway musicals, but no "name stars" participated (but some of the dancers who have gone on to greater things include Michael Barresse, Scott Fowler, and Greg Ramos) The production values were also not as elaborate as more recent versions of the show. Filmed using multiple cameras. Some generational loss. A-
BROADWAY BARES 2 1 DVD 10/28/92 ~ New York RARE! Even though this version of Broadway Bares is considered the second iteration, it is really the first that took on the recognized format and featured big production numbers. (The first version was when director Jerry Mitchell and 6 of his fellow dancers from The Will Rogers Follies danced on the bar at Splash and raised $8000.00 for BC/EFA). This early version, presented at Shout (a larger bar complete with a spotlight and a postage stamp-sized stage) was back by popular demand just 6 months after the first. The show had no theme, and none of the bigger Broadway names that would come to donate their time in the show in later versions, just one dance number after the other. Also, this version was the first version to feature women as well as men. Marla Maples makes an appearance toward the end of the show, during what is called the "Rotation"- when the dancers get up close to the fans, who stuff donations into their g-strings. Every few minutes, the dancers rotate around to different sets of fans. This show raised $17,000.00 for BC/EFA. Filmed using one camera on a tripod. Some generational loss. B+
BROADWAY BARES 1 1 DVD 4/8/92 ~ New York This is the show that started it all-the very origins of Broadway Bares, when Tony-winner Jerry Mitchell (who was doing The Will Rogers Follies at the time) and six friends climbed up on the bar at Splash to raise money. This is the only footage known to exist, and it only runs a little over 3 minutes. The show raised a total of $8000.00. A
