TOMORROW WITH TOM SNYDER - 11/73 ~ NBC-TV - Tom Snyder interviews Alfred Hitchcock. This is a copy of the 1980 rebroadcast following Hitchcock’s death. "Snyder sets up the interview by stating they were not going to talk about movies but about ideas. (Tidbits: What frightens you? What is your idea of Happiness? What part has religion played in your life and career? What other directors do you admire? What makes you angry? Movies' influence on audience? What turns you off in movies? What is suspense? Tom brings up discussion that they both had Jesuit training. Discussion about Ingrid Bergman - Hitch quoted her as saying "The problem with Hitch is he won't have a fight" - Hitch would just walk away from her and that would "infuriate her." Hitch tells many stories, including his "favorite" story, the use of nudity in movies. Talks of his diets - "I lost 100 pounds during making of 'Lifeboat' - lost 500 pounds during my lifetime." Says most gratifying thing about his career was that he was recognized on the street all over the world - Japan, Africa, everywhere". The entire 1 hour show is devoted to Hitchcock. For his part, Tom Snyder took his show live on NBC and broadcast for 6 hours straight. Kris is on to promote his made-for-TV movie "Freedom Road" which also starred Mohammad Ali. Also, Auschwitz survivor Fania Fenelon who played in an orchestra for the other prisoners, and Dean of Simon Wiesenthal Center For Holocaust Studies At Yeshiva University in L.A. Rabbi Marvin Hier discuss the CBS TV movie of Fania's life, "Playing For Time" and the selection of Vanessa Redgrave to play her. Hier says he brought Fenelon to America in hopes of convincing CBS to remove PLO-supporter Redgrave from the movie but CBS refused to do so. Snyder spends most of the time chain smoking and goading Manson on in any way possible, while a somewhat sedated Manson seems to resent having to talk. There is a very interesting dynamic between the two. Also, in studio is author Nuel Emmons who wrote "Manson In His Own Words". 55 minutes. B+

This episode aired the night of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’s death, but at the time of the broadcast it was only known she was very ill and probably wouldn’t live much longer. Tom speaks of her with great respect. (She died the following day). Carol Burnett is on to promote a special on CBS: "Carol Burnett: The Special Years", and a TV movie for NBC: "Season’s Of The Heart". This was Tom Snyder’s short lived talk show on CNBC after leaving NBC’s "Tomorrow With Tom Snyder" (which ran for 9 years). This series barely made it a year with poor ratings, and Tom’s constant battle with the CNBC executives. 1 hour, complete with original commercials. A
